WATER LOGGED
Storm Eunice, Portland Bill, Portland, 18th February 2022
This is an ongoing collection of seascapes taken around the British Isles. The sea is a constant in our lives but holds a particular interest if, like me, you were brought up on the coast. The smell of the salt air, the cries of the gulls, the constantly changing light and colour all add to this fascinatingly unpredictable place.
Some inspiration for this project has also come from listening to the BBC Radio 4’s Shipping Forecast programme. Lying awake in the early hours taking in the strange rhythmic patter has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Although, I would imagine, little understood by most of us, including myself, its timeless regularity has made it a much-loved part of British culture.
There has been a long maritime tradition of recording and observing the movements of both the sea and those who sail on it. To reflect this idea of a log or diary, I have tried to caption each photograph with notes detailing the location, date and any other notable details of the day.
