Ronke & Kevin
MIDDLE TEMPLE HALL, LONDON
It was a wet and grey day when I arrived at The Savoy Hotel to photograph Ronke getting ready with her daughter, Kiriem and her matron-of-honour Reilly. The Savoy is such an elegant building, tucked away down a little road off of The Strand, which could so easily be missed. It’s a wonderful mix of Art Deco and English Edwardian and looked impressive in spite of the rain.
I was particularly interested to photograph Ronke having her Gele (traditional Nigerian head wrap) fitted, it’s a fascinating and intricate process.
Ronke’s grandson Seyi, who was giving her away, was a real mix of nerves and pride and I think this really shows in the photos of them together.
The ceremony was held at St Bride’s church on Fleet Street and in the traditional style of a Nigerian wedding the couple had selected a colour scheme… the groom’s guests wore blue and the bride’s green.
After the service, some of the guests braved the weather and walked to nearby Middle Temple Hall for the wedding tea party. Umbrellas were needed!
